To mark the completion of works at Écrouves prison, Jordan Champlon took part in a commemorative visit focusing on drawings and graffiti carefully removed from the walls for preservation.
During the 1920s and 1930s, the site welcomed thousands of migrant workers, particularly from Poland, who came to complete administrative formalities before travelling to their workplaces in France. Before leaving, many recorded traces of their stay: names, dates, hometowns, drawings…
A moving occasion, attended notably by representatives of the Meurthe-et-Moselle Prefecture, the Polish Consulate and INRAP, reminding us of the importance of preserving these records of the past.
