Our teams worked on the Rhine lock at Volgelsheim, combining concrete sawing and core drilling to create recesses in the lock wall.

Our teams worked in Volgelsheim for SAERT on one of the side walls of the Rhine lock.

The objective was to create three recesses in the wall for the future installation of two mooring bars and a lock control pull rod.

Several concrete cutting techniques were used:

  • precise vertical sawing over a height of 6.50 m and to a depth of 32 cm, with paired cuts spaced 3 cm apart to provide the clearance needed for lifting and threading the diamond wire;

  • overlapping core holes at the base to separate the blocks from the surrounding concrete and allow the wire to pass through;

  • diamond wire sawing to cut the backs of the recesses cleanly.

The blocks were then secured with temporary supports, using U-shaped steel sections anchored into the lock wall.

A technically demanding project on a hydraulic structure, requiring precision, a carefully planned approach and full control of cutting and securing operations.
