The ground formations encountered had insufficient bearing capacity, making deep foundations necessary for the construction of the future Maison de Santé des Provinces healthcare centre in Laxou.
TES TECHNIFOR installed 52 micropiles, involving almost 700 metres of drilling and 9 tonnes of steel. Drilling depths ranged from 10 to 18 metres, depending on the structures to be supported.
A drilling method adapted to the ground conditions
Ground conditions varied across the site. In some areas, the boreholes remained stable, while elsewhere their walls required support.
The teams therefore used temporary casing where necessary to support the borehole walls during drilling.
Drilling was carried out using compressed air to power the tool at the bottom of the borehole and bring the drill cuttings to the surface.
Micropiling in an urban environment
The close proximity of homes was another significant constraint. Noise, dust and working hours had to be considered to minimise disruption to local residents.
Site organisation and drilling methods were therefore adapted to the urban surroundings.
The high temperatures experienced during the summer also required the teams to adjust their working hours and, when necessary, suspend operations to protect personnel and machinery.
In the video filmed on site, Louis Germain discusses these constraints and explains the measures implemented by TES TECHNIFOR.
The project brings together several partners: Collectif Studiolada and Agnès Hausermann for the architectural design, BET ETICO for structural engineering, BTS for the main structural works, Barthes Bois for timber framing and structural timber works, and TES TECHNIFOR for specialist foundations and micropiling.
