Last spring, a violent hailstorm severely damaged the roof of a storage building in Trémery, north of Metz. The cause of the problem? A rainwater drainage issue that led to the formation of an ice plug on the drains.
With 10 to 15 centimetres of water accumulating on the roof, the weight became unbearable, causing a prestressed beam to rupture. It broke in two and collapsed onto the storage racks below. Fortunately, no one was injured, but 60 m² of roof was missing, exposing the building to the elements.
Faced with the urgency of the situation, our team immediately took charge of the intervention. We resized metal sections to replace the defective beam and reinforced two other adjacent beams as a safety measure. Working at a height of 14 metres required the use of specific cranes, as well as the delivery of 17-metre long steel beams, transported by exceptional convoy.
Every step of the implementation was meticulously planned to ensure the safety and precision of the work. The repair proved particularly demanding, as the building had to remain partially operational throughout our intervention. To minimise disruption to the client, our teams worked six days a week, with extended hours.
After replacing the collapsed beam and repairing the roof, we carried out revisions and reinforcements on other supports to guarantee the long-term safety of the structure.
This intervention perfectly illustrates our expertise in managing complex and urgent projects. Thanks to our responsiveness and adapted solutions, we enabled our client to quickly regain use of their building under optimal conditions of safety and functionality.
